Facebook menggunakan video untuk meningkatkan keterlibatan dan telah menarik minat yang cukup bagi Facebook Live yang memungkinkan setiap pengguna streaming video langsung.

Facebook telah mendominasi ruang media sosial serta iklan online meski perusahaan berusaha mendiversifikasi seperti ke pesan, virtual reality, dan bidang lainnya.

Perusahaan riset eMarketer memperkirakan, Facebook menguasai sekitar dua per tiga pendapatan iklan media sosial, mengalahkan pesaingnya seperti Twitter yang menghasilkan kinerja mengecewakan. Jumlah pengguna aktif bulanan naik 15 persen dari tahun lalu.

Facebook Sasar Negara Berkembang

CEO Facebook Mark Zuckerberg mengatakan, salah satu peluang terbesar untuk pertumbuhan bisnisnya ke depan berasal dari negara-negara berkembang meski internet berkecepatan tinggi tidak tersedia secara luas.

Dia mencatat, Facebook sedang bekerja memperluas akses internet di seluruh dunia melalui berbagai inisiatif, termasuk proyek drone yang bertujuan membawa akses online ke daerah yang kurang terlayani.

Facebook juga telah mengumumkan menyelesaikan tes pertama drone bertenaga surya, Aquila yang disebut tonggak utama untuk proyek tersebut.

Facebook telah memenangkan pujian dari analis seperti kenaikan pertumbuhan jumlah pengguna layanan baru, termasuk memperkenalkan layanan berbagi foto Instagram, aplikasi pesan WhatsApp, dan virtual reality Oculus.

“Facebook tetap teratas bagi kita mengingat posisinya yang terbesar atau paling menarik bagi pengiklan. Potensinya tak tertandingi dan format monetasinya sangat ampuh,” kata analis Cantor Fityzgerald.

“Ponsel telah menjadi pendorong utama pertumbuhan Facebook saat ini. Video dan Instagram pun harus mulai bergerak di paruh kedua tahun ini.”

Analis RBC Capital Markets menyatakan, Facebook akan tumbuh lebih lanjut. “Facebook masih memiliki banyak ruang untuk tumbuh, paling tidak iklan di video,” kata analis.

Sekitar 84 persen dari pendapatan Facebook senilai US$ 6,2 miliar berasal dari iklan online. Saat ini pendapatan iklan berasal dari pesan yang dikirim ke perangkat bergerak (mobile).

Facebook menyatakan, lebih dari satu miliar pengguna aktif harian menggunakan ponsel, naik 22 persen dari tahun lalu. Pengguna aktif bulanan naik 20 persen menjadi 1,57 miliar orang. Kas dan setara kas mencapai lebih dari US$ 23 miliar.

Facebook kini mulai menunjukkan virtual reality Oculus Rift yang dijual sekitar US$ 599. Namun harga tersebut tidak termasuk biaya komputer yang dapat menangani pengolahan dan tuntutan grafis teknologi. Oculus Rift akan tersedia di toko-toko Amerika Serikat.
